The Interplanetary File System (IPFS) is a distributed file storage protocol that allows computers all over the world to store and serve files as part of a huge peer-to-peer network. Any computer, anywhere in the world, can get the IPFS software and start hosting and serving files. While blockchain’s nodes share a ledger, IPFS is a peer-to-peer file-sharing system that hashes files in the same way that blockchain hashes transactions. Users can then search for files based on their hashes. IPFS objects can only take up a certain amount of space, and the maximum amount of data they can hold is 256 KB.
